I generally enjoy reading your contributions to Substack; but is it necessary to use inventive and hurtful language when posting. I had to look up the definition of MAGAts on the internet and this is what I found: "A MAGAt is a brain-dead admirer of Donald Trump & his slogan, Make America Great Again. In dealing with MAGAts, it’s best to understand how they are formed. A large number of them have overdosed on right-wing propaganda spewed out by Trump, Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones and other right-wing maggots.
Most MAGAts are unshakably attached to Trump’s hateful and ignorant ideology due to their diet of disinformation, propaganda and bigotry. It is unlikely that you can say anything in a short or long conversation that could overcome the flood of bullshit that MAGAts have consumed over a long period of time."
While it is beyond disappointing to see ICE focusing on illegals in meat packing plants and at Home Depot, it is impossible to compare the Biden administration with Trump's. Biden sacrificed our troops and allies in Afghanistan and that moron belonged in a nursing home. As we all know, his trainers arranged an invasion of illegal aliens to settle throughout the USA just as American troops are stationed around the world. I expect a huge riot and a massive military reaction to it on Flag Day.
You're soooo close! If you think this is just mocking "MAGAts," dig a little deeper and I think you'll find the twist ;)
God bless your heart for not knowing the word "MAGAt." It is indeed a vile term, which is precisely why I chose it, in keeping with the "silly poem" that inspired this post. I put a crypto-Swiftian spin on this one. I knew it'd piss people off and lose me subs among a certain demo if taken at face value--and among another demo if the reference was understood ha--but it's so dreadfully boring to be obvious all the time.
Plus, the thought of some "libtards" (another delightful sobriquet, btw) sharing this blithely believing they were "owning the MAGAts" while self-incriminating makes me smile, along with the "Aha!" moment for the readers who actually do get it, who are rewarded for their curiosity.
I believe readers enjoy the odd puzzle among the steady stream of quotidian talking points and fruit fly headlines pouring into their inboxes, something to surprise or challenge or even upset them. Something to chew on. At least, I do, and so my readers better because that's what they're getting haha
But, I've been caught monologuing again! If you or anyone else feels differently, then I bid them farewell and sincerely wish them well on their journey. Not everything is for everyone; that's fine. I genuinely appreciate the kind words and your readership (along with all of my readers), but please allow me to be clear: I do not do requests here. My stack will certainly not focus on "reality," and it most certainly will remain, at times, recherché, offensive, silly, and--worst of all--poetic.
Some inside baseball: it was a fun, little challenge trying to keep this as close as possible to the infamous original. Certain swaps, like "perp walk" and "coup song" were almost too easy. The nursery stanza, however, had me stumped for a while as, thankfully, "pickaninny" isn't a word with a lot of parallels today. But I started thinking about the actual "MAGAt/maggot" imagery and that level of hate, dehumanization, disgust, the visceral revulsion TDSers feel toward Trump voters and their "spawn." "Larva" was right there! ...but I couldn't fit it in the rhyme scheme, and then it hit me: swap in "infestation" earlier and I could rhyme in "pupatin'," a word I haven't had the opportunity (misfortune?) to use in years. Simple, but they work together to create quite an image, I think.
Unrelated, but I also found it funny one reprinting back in '03 used "h---" instead of spelling out "hell." I guess they didn't want to be obscene, after all! Think of the children! Unbelievable. That just blew my mind, so I kept it in as well, along with the insane punctuation.
It is all excellently done, despite my inadequate, almost cursory, acknowledgment. Those two lines particularly stood out, fully evoking the imagery you wished to convey.
You are multi-talented indeed, sir. Though you will downplay such praise with your characteristic humility, it is very true. If you can't wallow in that truth, at least dip your toes in a bit, eh? =)

Focus on reality and drop the silly poems

These two lines are gold:
Baby in the nursery
A MAGAt pupatin'.
Thank you! I really appreciate it.
