I think the award has to go to McConnell, as for mine... Lori Lightfoot looks a bit too much like the Creature of the Black Lagoon.

Yeah, Mitch does spend a lot of time on his yacht, The S.S. Cocaine, too, and I suspect that is because he is going out to sea where he then dives to the turbid depths and convenes with other Deep Ones amidst the non-Euclidian architecture of Y'ha-nthlei.

... and does a lot of cocaine.

My biggest issue with Mitch as winner is the strong resemblance to--and likely worship of--Tsathaggua. Hence the outcome haha

Lori does have a mix of Innsmouth Look, standard lagoon creature, Beetlejuice, and of course--as the Babylon Bee continuously points out--Gollum. But man, for me, she is the most Innsmouth Looking person I have ever seen this side a doggone Dagon temple!

I try not to judge people by their appearances, and time is kind to few of us, but I do find it fascinating how many politicians look so creepy and unnatural. Is it the old Roald Dahl theory that ugly thoughts warp a person on the outside as well, or are they indeed hybrid children of Dagon and Chthulhu sent above to usher in the end times?

Not too young - early twenties nyc. For much of a decade it’s what we read, exchanged between us, talked about. Lovecraft - Chulhu reigned. The Dunwich Horror, probably my fav. . (When we visited a small town in Maine years later and I thought I fell into it.) Got our kids into it much younger - but also Heinlein and Asimov. Fantasy too - le guin for sure. Riverworld. Ever read a series based around Fafherd & the Grey Mouser?(misspelled am sure) any ones stand out to you?

Parenting win! Love Le Guin, Asimov, Heinlein... all great. Well played :) I still reference the phenomenal history lesson/criminal justice chapter of Starship Troopers more often than I'd like haha. I haven't read Farmer yet, but I have heard Riverworld is really interesting. I'll have to check it out. Ditto for Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser (I cheated and searched it online). That sounds right up my alley! Plus I love the word "Mouser."

And yeah small town Maine can make HPLs works hit a little too close to home haha. Watch out for those Whateleys! Speaking of the backwoods, my black sheep pick for great HPL stories is The Picture in the House. No real Mythos stuff, just a taut, tense story with one of my favorite trademark HPL down endings. I feel like it is some of his best writing, going brilliantly from his usual purple prose to gut-punch brevity with lines like this at the end: "...a tiny spattering impact was heard, and something shewed on the yellowed paper of the upturned volume. I thought of the rain and of a leaky roof, but rain is not red. " That last phrase gets me every time!

Aside from that, like I mentioned in the article I have a soft spot for just how fun Innsmouth is. Can't go wrong with the heavy hitters either like Call, Mountains, and of course the brilliant Dunwich. I love Duniwch not only because it also spawned a campy classic film with Dean Stockwell, but it is also one of the only stories where the protagonist actually pretty much wins! Way to go, Armitage! Apparently HPL himself said he found himself identifying with ol' Armitage by the end of the story.

And if you like pop/punk/garage metal check out Darkest of the Hillside Thickets. Their track "Goin Down to Dunwich" is a banger.

Love this. Going to revisit Lovecraft - you’ve inspired me!

Thank you for the kind message; I appreciate it :) And enjoy revisiting HPL and his wonderful menagerie of gibbering cosmic horrors haha

We have Lovecraft in common my friend.

That is awesome! The list is adding up haha

I love HPL. My mom had some collections of his stuff that I stumbled upon as a kid, mainly because they had creepy monster covers which in retrospect had little to do with his actual stories. But by the time I was in high school, I was a certified HPL junkie. If any vocab tests had "esoteric," "furtive," or "cyclopean" on them I was way ahead of the game thanks to ol' Howard haha

Did you come across his stuff pretty early as well? And any favorite stories?

Your delightful wit is always an enjoyable read. Hopefully Mitch will retire soon and join the other ghouls who inhabit Innsmouth.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed this one; it was fun to write. I've been pointing out people IRL who have the Innsmouth Look for years, so I'm happy if others can now share in this simple joy. Once you see it, you realize the Cult of Dagon is everywhere! haha

I think there is a non-zero chance that those recent "episodes" Cocaine Mitch had where he just zoned out and silently stared out the crowd for minutes were actually his mind being shattered by the discordant piping of the Elder Gods echoing through the angles of his corrupted cranium. Or a stroke. It's hard to tell.

Also could explain why Pelosi's face mask appears to be melting, and the reason Reptile Queen Hillary and Mandroid Pence both never flinched as swarms of Beelzebub's flies landed on their faces. I half expected Hillary's forked, elongated tongue to flick out and catch the fly. Kudos to her for the restraint. That's why she da queen, baby! Or all the murders. It's hard to tell.
